FUTURE PLANS
The Prospect Local History Group's vision is to preserve and maintain the Prospect "air raid shelter" as a heritage, commemorative and education site, in recognition of the fine efforts and sacrifices of the City of Prospect residents and the Civil Defence during the WW2 era.
The objective is to be known as a creative and immersive educational interpretive centre with high quality permanent and changing exhibitions, to be a "destination" for ongoing and repeat visitations, an asset to the Prospect Memorial Gardens precinct and the local Prospect community.
Its value will be recognized not only by the Prospect community, but by the wider South Australian community.
The Prospect Local History Group has been successful in obtaining State Heritage Listing for the Air Raid Shelter.
Future physical developments may include the installation of electricity and lighting, both internally and externally; installation of air conditioning and adequate ventilation. However, these upgrades require careful consideration, development approval and budgetary implications to be addressed.
Future programs will target various age groups - school groups, general public, development of educational resources, Memorial Garden walks. High quality engaging permanent and "pop up displays" will be developed.
Because of its uniqueness, there is potential to expand on the use of the shelter to that of a public venue for events such as the Adelaide Fringe, SALA, "Laneway" style events.
The Air Raid shelter is a significant asset to the Prospect community, not only for its commemorative and educational purpose but also as an economic benefit to the community, bringing new visitations into Prospect.
